Part of the AWA group
AWA Asia is the Asian arm of the AWA Group. With the simultaneous opening of two offices in Hong Kong and Beijing in February 2015, AWA/AWA Asia combines extensive competence in IP law with local business knowledge across two continents: Europe and Asia.
We support IP rich companies of all profiles and the world's well-known brand owners in their IP and related regulatory, transactional and dispute resolution needs in Asia and Europe. Our approach on service delivery is business minded, pragmatic and tailored.
The AWA Asia team consists of experienced and qualified IP professionals led by CEO and Principal Counsel Ai-Leen Lim, the former international partner and head of trademark portfolio management for a prominent international law firm in Greater China (Mainland China and Hong Kong).
Her highly qualified team members are all bilingual and bicultural and experienced in advising international clients on IP matters relating to China/Hong Kong/the Asia- Pacific region. The members of the team have been trained and/or are admitted to practice in the key jurisdictions in Asia (China, Hong Kong, Singapore and Taiwan) and also in Europe (United Kingdom). They have extensive experience in advising international clients on appropriate IP strategies and related matters in the Asia-Pacific region, particularly in Greater China: i.e. mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau.
The AWA Asia headquarters is situated in Hong Kong, a location chosen for its good business infrastructure, tax regime, proximity to the adjacent Chinese Mainland, the international and bilingual talent base from which it can draw, and the fact that it is one of two key IP hubs in Asia.
AWA Asia's office in Beijing, AWA IP (Beijing) Co., Ltd is an IP consultancy that is also a licensed PRC trademark agency (TMA), which enables us to file and enforce trademarks directly in China before the Trademark Office and the administrative authorities. The business scope of our IP consultancy is the broadest possible allowed by Chinese AIC for foreign firms. We can assist clients with all types of trademark work through the TMA with the exception of court filings and advocacy work. For these services our own team of qualified lawyers works closely with locally licensed law firms on case strategy and drafting work, as no foreign firm has a right of audience before the Chinese courts. Similarly we can attend to copyright registrations directly for our clients. As for patent matters and IP litigation in China, we work with our trusted network of other PRC IP agencies.
AWA Asia offers a wide range of IP and related services:
- IP Strategy, Prosecution and registration: patents, trademarks, designs and copyrights (including portfolio management of clients' IP assets)
- Enforcement/Anti-counterfeiting (including administrative litigation)
- IP dispute resolution and litigation
- IP due diligence and IP transactional support
- Advertising law, product liability, labelling, contests, gaming and sweepstakes
- Internet law and social media issues
Our Asian team is well versed in advising in a range of industry sectors including electronics/ IT/ telecommunications, fashion, FMCG, food and beverage, lifestyle, media and entertainment, professional services, retail, real estate and online business sectors.
Our Chinese offices work with AWA's vast international network of clients and associates to deliver an international quality level of service built on the basis of local knowledge and expertise, essentially we are an East-meets-West bridge to our clients who need help in navigating the very complex but extremely important markets in Greater China and Asia. In the same vein, our offices in Beijing and Hong Kong also bring us closer to our clients and associates in Mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau with their strategic IP needs in Europe.
AWA Asia's vision is to be the leading pan European–Asian IP practice with a tier 1 reputation in all aspects of contentious and non-contentious intellectual property work: from filing through to registration, exploitation, enforcement, dispute resolution and related advisory/regulatory work, as well as IP transactions.
Please do not hesitate to contact us if you would like to know more about AWA Asia and our capabilities. We look forward to working with you.
