Swedish patents in English from 1 July

In practice, this means that an applicant who wishes that notices, decisions during the case handling and other official documents shall be in English, and who wants to reply to notices and in general write to PRV in English, may do so without having to translate the documents at any point. For informative purpose only, the granted claims have to be translated into Swedish.

For European patents granted by the EPO from July 1, 2014, corresponding changes to the Swedish Patents Act are made. The Swedish translation of the patent claims that must be submitted upon validation in Sweden will no longer have legal effect. The patent claims in the language of proceedings at the EPO will, alone, have legal effect in Sweden.
