New study reveals economic benefits of Intellectual Property

Intellectual Property Rights intensive industries generate more economic profit and promote higher salaries in comparison to other industries according to a new study from the EPO (European Patent Office) and EUIPO (European Union Intellectual Property Office).

The report found that more than 42% (ca EUR 5.7 trillion) of the total economic activity in the European Union is generated by Intellectual Property Rights intensive industries. Approximately 38% (or 82 million) of all jobs in the EU originate from businesses with higher than average use of IP rights and wages in IP intensive industries are more than 46% higher than salaries in other industries.

In regards to trade, IP intensive industries stand for a staggering 93% of all exports and 85% of all imports in the EU.
